Kenyatta R Gilbert is professor of homiletics at the Howard University School of Divinity. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University and a Master of Divinity degree and PhD in practical theology from Princeton Theological Seminary. Gilbert specializes in the history, theory, and practice of African American preaching. He is the author of “The Journey and Promise of African American Preaching,” “A Pursued Justice: Black Preaching from the Great Migration to Civil Rights,” “Exodus Preaching: Crafting Sermons about Justice and Hope,” and is columnist for Living the Word in Sojourners magazine. Gilbert is an ordained Baptist minister, founder of The Preaching Project, and is the recipient of Louisville Institute’s First Book Grant for Minority Scholars and Howard University’s Emerging Scholar Award and Andrew Mellon Fellowship.
