Biography

Dr. Joy J. Moore is the 13th President of Northern Seminary and Professor of Homiletics. An “Ecclesial Storyteller,” she weaves biblically grounded narratives addressing contemporary issues across diverse ministry contexts. A Chicago native and ordained United Methodist elder, her career spans positions at Luther Seminary, Fuller Theological Seminary, and Duke Divinity School. Dr. Moore holds a PhD in Practical Theology, co-hosts Working Preacher podcasts, and has championed cross-racial ministry initiatives, including efforts during the Flint Water Crisis.

With a passion for building bridges between theology and practice, Dr. Moore brings her expertise in fostering cross-cultural connections to Northern Seminary’s mission of forming resilient, mature, and joyful church leaders. She officially began her presidency on December 1, 2024.
